Fuel prices expected to drop in October

Following a drop in fuel prices for the month of September, South African consumers could expect fuel prices to decrease in October.

The Central Energy Fund (CEF) daily snapshot released on September 13, 2024 showed that fuel prices in the country are set to drop.

According to the data, this is what the changes are expected to look like:

– Petrol 95: decrease of around 126 cents per litre

– Petrol 93: decrease of around 117 cents per litre

– Diesel (0.05%): decrease of around 109 cents per litre

– Diesel (0.005%): decrease of around 110 cents per litre

– Illuminating paraffin: decrease of around 104 cents per litre

According to the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), the daily snapshots are not predictive and do not encompass other possible modifications, such as slate levy adjustments or retail margin changes.

Fuel prices

Data from the DMRE indicates that fuel prices in the country have been on a downward trend since June 2024.

For June 2024, 93 leaded petrol cost R23.91 for inland and R23.46 for coastal. Unleaded 95 petrol cost R24.25. Diesel (0.05%) cost R20.96 inland and R20.17 on the coast.

For July 2024, 93 leaded petrol cost R22.86 inland and R22.47 on the coast. 95 unleaded petrol cost R23.26 inland. Diesel (0.05%) cost R20.66 inland and R19.87 for the coast.

For August 2024, 93 leaded petrol cost R22.71 inland and R22.32 on the coast. Unleaded 95 petrol cost R23.11 inland. Diesel (0.05%) cost R20.38 inland and R19.59 on the coast.

For September 2024, 93 leaded petrol cost R21.79 inland and R21.40 for the cost. Unleaded 95 petrol cost R22.19 inland. Diesel (0.05%) cost R19.59 inland and R18.80 on the coast.
