THE Theatre arts Admin Collective together with ASSITEJ SA will present The Obs Family Festival from March 14 to 21 at the Obs Methodist Church Hall in Observatory.
Nine days of imaginative theatre, readings of new work for ‘tweens’, workshops for theatre-makers and families, as well as Open Conversations, which offers time to connect and get the whole family talking.
Five productions for teenagers include You Suck, written and performed by Klara van Wyk, directed by Francesco Nassimbeni; Stof Rooi presented by Kleisand Teater and directed by Jason Jacobs; Point Blank, presented by Jungle Theatre; No Fun ction alL anguage, presented by Chaeli Campaign, directed by Jayne Batzofin, and (un)locked?, directed by Maggi Fernando and choreographed by Mbovu Malinga.
Four shows for the under seven’s are Just Here by Pillowfort, directed by Gabriel Marchand, with Joanna Evans and Roshina Ratnam; The Cloud Catcher, written and directed by Richard Antrobus, with Asiphe Lili; Molo Lollo directed by Jason Jacobs with Caroline Midgely and Sjaka Septembir, and S unshine Babies, directed by Gisele Turner, with Sibo Masondo and Mlu Ngidi.
In the dance for all ages category there will be Ukwakha, presented by Indoni Academy for Leadership, choregoraphed by Sbonakilso Ndaba; Time on the Road by Jazzart and choregoraphed by Sefiso Kweyama and Mziyanda Mancam. There will also be readings of new work.
Join in with your ‘tweenie’ and engage with the writer in how to develop the work. Theatre Arts Admin has two plays in development – both for 9 to 12 year olds. Warrior Green is directed by Wynne Bredenkamp on March 18 from 11.30am to 12.45pm. Free.

There will also be workshops For teens – dance/speak is aimed at teenagers attending the performance of Stof Rooi. Transport home can be made available to learners. For Teenagers on March 14 from 3pm to 5pm.
A VAMOS Theatre Workshop – Full Mask Workshop for the 15 - 25 years old’s will be run by the UK’s leading mask theatre company. Participants will gain a solid grounding in the techniques of mask theatre and learn about internal monologue, clarity of thought, the importance of focus.
