Cape Town - Rocklands ward councillor Ashley Potts congratulated Cedar High School for winning gold at the Gymnastics SA National Championships on Sunday in Tshwane.

The SA Gymnastic Federation (SAGF) championships is taking place until October 9 with gymnasts competing in all disciplines across multiple venues.

Categories include General, Aerobic, Acrobatic, Men’s-Artistic, Women’s-Artistic, Rhythmic, Trampoline, Rope-Skipping, Gym-For-All, and Parkour.

Potts said the competitors flew the flag for Mitchells Plain.

“I have always been a fan of the sport and I have been supporting the team for a very long time.

“I am glad that such young talented kids put our area on the map and showcase their talent.

“They are very passionate about what they are doing and they get the full support from the community and also from the teachers.

“We are proud and we cannot wait for them to get back so that we can celebrate with them.

“Sport is a very good thing because it takes you out of dangerous things such as drugs, with the sport you get to see the world and meet people from different backgrounds and keeps your body fit at all times.

“It also teaches you to be humble and focus on whatever you do and with sport, you go everywhere in the world,” said Potts.

The team was unavailable to comment on Wednesday.
