Cape Town - Police have launched a manhunt for the two suspects behind the killing of three Khayelitsha siblings, in yet another mass killing in the township.
The armed men in dark clothes stormed the home at 8pm and fired several shots, killing the siblings aged 51, 53 and 57, according to police.
“Organised crime detectives have initiated an investigation after three members of a family were shot and killed in Ekuphumleni, Khayelitsha on Sunday evening.
“Lingelethu police were called out to Lindelwa Street where they found the bodies of two men and a woman with gunshot wounds. Information gathered from the scene indicates all three victims were siblings. The detectives are pursuing several leads as part of the investigation into the shooting incident. No arrests have been effected yet,” said police spokesperson Novela Potelwa.
According to the Khayelitsha Development Forum, Sunday’s mass shooting brings to more than 60 the number of people killed in similar incidents between May last year and this May.
Hours after that incident, two women aged 50 and 52 and three men aged between 35 and 41 were wounded in a shooting at about 6.15am in Duinefontein Road, Manenberg on Monday.
The unknown suspect is believed to have fled on foot while his victims were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.
While the motive for the attack has not yet been established, police said they were investigating a case of attempted murders.
