I am a resident of Groutville within KwaDukuza Municipality, in a ward of iNkosi Albert Luthuli.

Groutville did not only produce iNkosi Luthuli but also Justice “Maqina” Gizenga Mpanza, a veteran of the Wankie Campaign who spent 15 years in Robben Island Prison.

This area was also blessed with Professor Fred Dube, a former Robben Island prisoner who is in the league of intellectuals like former president Thabo Mbeki and his father Govan Mbeki, Kader Asmal, Alex La Guma, Barney Pityana, Minister of Science and Technology Naledi Pandor, Jakes Gerwel, Joe Slovo and Yusuf Dadoo. Howard Nduli is also from our area.

KwaDukuza is under iLembe District Municipality, where you have roots of Johnny Makhathini, Big Boy Guma, Albertina Luthuli and Mzi Khumalo.

I am disappointed that hooligans in the ANC Youth League threw “poo” at former minister of finance Pravin Gordhan, a man who tried to save our economy from entering “junk status”.

He was also among those who formed a ring of steel around the National Treasury together with former minister of finance Nhlanhla Nene, former deputy minister of finance Mcebisi Jonas, Themba Maseko, Ivan Pillay and other whistle-blowers.

Before the Saxonwold Shebeen began the “colonisation” of our state, Gordhan was a darling of the ANCYL, Jimmy Manyi, Dudu Myeni, Duduzani, Edward, Thuthukile and Khulubuse Zuma.

He was hailed as a “revolutionary” more than Jabu Moleketi, Gill Marcus, Mandla Nkomfe, Michael Sachs, Alec Erwin, Moss Ngoasheng, Tito Mboweni and many.

In 1917, Oliver Tambo was born.

Now, towards the end of OR Centenary Celebrations, hooligans in the ANCYL were “hired” to commit act of barbarism and execute a “primitive” protest against Gordhan.

At the same time, I am happy that it exposes Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma whose campaign is backed by Bathabile Dlamini, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, Kebby Maphatsoe, Richard Mdluli and Minister of Water and Sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane who said “if the rand falls, we will easily pick it up”.

Our mayor Richardo Mthembu lambasted those who “speak” big English and “rich” in the presence of Dr Dlamini Zuma.

She was in Groutville to visit Luthuli’s grave and beg him to “shower” her campaign with blessings and victory. The entire Luthuli family was absent.

While saluting Umkhonto we Sizwe members who died in the then Rhodesia in 1967, the death of iNkosi Luthuli (1967), death of Cassius Maake, Paul Dikeledi, Theophillus Dlodlo, Tutu Nkwanyane, Mildred Msomi and Eliza Tsinini and remembering Moses Mabhida, who died in 1967, the ANCYL “hired mob” threw “poo” at Gordhan.

Imagine those who back Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa going to the mayor’s “home” in Port Zimbali and throwing “poo” at his doorstep.

Municipal buildings in KwaDukuza have been secured to avoid protesters throwing “poo” on the doorsteps of our municipality. Who paid this “mob” or “bought them a bottle of Smirnoff and a case of beer”?

Whose stomachs are they protecting? Who is funding this “poo” campaign? I am sure iNkosi Luthuli turned many times in his grave when “hired political gangsters” did what was done at Ahmed Kathrada’s memorial service in Durban, sies!

How will ANC win back lost support of non-Africans if such incidents continue without consequences?
