It was such a dreadful mistake on the part of President Cyril Ramaphosa to retain Nomvula Mokonyane in his Cabinet in spite of her appalling track record, the many allegations against her character and conduct and, finally, her uninformed comment on lifting the junked rand as though that was an item on the floor that could be physically picked up.

As was to be expected, within a short period of her retention in the Cabinet, details are being copiously furnished to the Zondo Commission by Angelo Agrizzi, under oath, about the extended and substantial greasing of Mokonyane’s palms by Bosasa for her political favours and protection against prosecution.

The president’s massive misjudgement regarding her probity and capability has left us aghast and feeling sick to the pit of our stomachs.

It was one thing for Jacob Zuma to have retained her, but for Ramaphosa to have followed suit is too ghastly to fathom.

On hearing what the nation is now being fed at the commission, Ramaphosa should stop procrastinating.

He should hastily call a press conference to declare his extreme shock and to announce his decision to fire her notwithstanding the support she enjoys from the criminal and corrupted faction in his party, and also notwithstanding the fact that she has not yet been criminally found guilty in a court of law.

Politics is about perception. She has discredited her party and brought it into extreme disrepute. Enough is enough!

The incredulity with which the nation received her retention in the cabinet has been vindicated.

It was a dreadful mistake the sheer horror of which has been too large and too terrifying.
