All kinds of excuses are being mentioned in newspapers and on TV for Eskom’s implementing of load shedding again.
First there was a shortage of coal supply, then the next excuse was the claim that many of the power stations’ maintenance or repair work was going on. This was followed by more excuses, etc. I was shocked when I followed a report on German TV (ARD) on Sunday.
The programme Weltspiegel showed the problem that the world was facing due to high carbon emission caused especially by coal-fired power plants.
In the programme, it was mentioned that Germany got up to 10% of the coal they needed to operate their coal-fired power plants from South Africa.
South Africa was exporting coal to overseas country’s as well as power to neighbouring countries, but declared load shedding here at home, and on top of this wants a 15% increase in its charges for every year until 2021.
In my opinion, this is a big cheat, and customers’ and taxpayers’ rip-off.
