Durban – Hijackers allegedly held up a car owner and his friends in Glenmore and removed the tracking device before fleeing in two vehicles.
Police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo said the complainant alleged that on Thursday at 8.45pm, he and his friends were accosted by armed suspects in Nicolai Crescent.
“The suspects took the vehicle and drove off. The matter was reported to the police and the vehicle was recovered by police officers from Durban Flying Squad on Ogle Road, (in Wentworth),” Ngcobo said.
She said two suspects, aged 22 and 45, were arrested for hijacking and were expected to appear in court on Monday.
According to information posted on the Umbilo Community Police Forum Facebook page, it was alleged that the friends were approached by three suspects.
“One of the suspects pointed them with a firearm and instructed them to lie down. One of the suspects was busy dismantling the tracker and the third one waited in their motor vehicle,” read the information.
Meanwhile, in another incident, a stolen Toyota Fortuner was found abandoned and stripped in the Umbumbulu area.
According to police, the vehicle’s owner said that on April 30, 2022, at 2.30pm, he had parked his vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, at a parking lot in Inanda Road outside business premises. When he returned to where he was parked, his vehicle was no longer there.
“A case of theft of a motor vehicle was opened in Greenwood Park police station for investigation. The vehicle was recovered by the police on May 5, 2022, in the Umbumbulu area,” Ngcobo said.
Magma Security and Investigations said that on Thursday around 11.50am, they received information about a white Toyota Fortuner that was stolen in the Durban area.
The tracking company picked up a signal on the R603 near Umbumbulu and the teams mobilised.
“After tracking for a short time the stolen Fortuner was located abandoned and stripped. The vehicle was handed over to SAPS for further investigation,” Magma Security and Investigations said.
