American singer and songwriter Victoria Monét and her baby daddy John Gaines are no longer together.
The former couple, who have a daughter together, released a joint statement to announce their breakup.
“We spent the last 10 months trying to respectfully and privately navigate the fact that we are no longer in a relationship. Though we still completely adore each other, we are not a couple anymore. There was no infidelity, toxic behaviour nor drama.
"We both just have some fundamental growing to do that would be best done apart so we can remain the best versions of ourselves for our daughter.
“It simply didn't work out and that’s okay. We still think the world of each other and operate with love in every interaction for our family. We have an incredible daughter to raise for life and that is undoubtedly our number one priority forever,” read the statement.

Social media users weighed in on the split.
“Aw, damn! I didn’t even know there were rumours about their split. It’s sad but sometimes things don’t work out the way we expect them to. But I respect the fact they split and still have love and respect for each other.
“This is probably the healthiest split we’ve seen this year,” said @xTheAntiHero.
Another X user, @Muffinheadsam, commented: “I hate it when celebs do this! Like why y’all gotta put a statement out to explain your personal lives. No one is entitled to your personal lives. Anyway, I wish Victoria the best!”
Monét and Gaines are not the first couple to abruptly break up. We’ve seen it happen with Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert, who called it quits after seven years of marriage and two children later.
