South African songstress Lira has opened up about her grief, paying tribute to her late mother on what would have been her 69th birthday.

The award-winning singer took to Instagram on March 7 to share her emotions, describing the day as bittersweet.

In her heartfelt post, Lira expressed how much she misses her mother and chose to honour her with the poem "Miss Me But Let Me Go" by Christina Rossetti.

The poem conveys a message of remembrance without sorrow, reflecting the kind of love and strength her mother embodied.

Lira has been candid about the personal challenges she has faced in recent years.

In 2022, the beloved Afro-soul musician suffered a stroke while in Frankfurt, Germany.

The stroke significantly impacted her ability to speak, read, and write, forcing her to take a step back from her music career.

Despite the hardships, she has maintained a positive outlook, referring to her stroke as a "blessing in disguise" that allowed her to slow down and appreciate life differently.

Shortly after her own health crisis, Lira’s mother was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

Lira has openly shared her healing process, detailing her tireless efforts to regain her speech and return to the stage.

Her resilience and determination have inspired many of her fans, who continue to support her as she navigates life after her stroke and the loss of her mother.

Despite the pain of her mother’s passing, Lira is forging ahead.

She has been announced as part of the lineup for this year’s Cape Town International Jazz Festival, marking a significant milestone in her recovery and return to music.
