Award-winning South African actor and musician Phila Madlingozi has announced that he is stepping away from acting to focus on his music career.
The son of legendary musician Ringo Madlingozi shared the news on Instagram, saying he felt it was time to "turn another page" in his journey.
"It is with a mix of emotions that I, Phila Madlingozi, announce my break from the acting world," he wrote.
"After years of bringing characters to life on screen, I feel it's time to turn another page in my career."
Madlingozi, who became a household name in 2013 after starring in the second season of Intersexions, has built a strong reputation in the entertainment industry.
In 2018, he won a Golden Horn Award for Best Achievement in Original Music/Score in a TV Drama for his work on “Isikizi” Season 2.
Reflecting on his acting journey, he expressed gratitude to fans and industry colleagues.
"The journey of an actor is one filled with incredible highs and challenging lows, and I have been blessed to experience a spectrum of roles that have not only shaped my career but also my life," he said.
Beyond his acting career, Phila has been actively involved in the music industry, following in his father's illustrious footsteps.
Madlingozi, who recently starred in the Showmax reality series “Born Into Fame”, which follows children of famous parents trying to forge their own paths, is now fully embracing his musical ambitions.
"As I transition from the screen to the studio, I want to invite all my acting fans to join me on this new musical journey," he added. "My love for storytelling continues, now through melodies and lyrics."
