Get ready to fall in love, or watch red balloons burst one by one, because the internet’s favourite dating show, "Pop The Balloon Or Find Love" is officially making its way to Netflix!
The viral YouTube show, now turned live-streaming event, will premiere on April 10, at 9pm Central African Time.
Hosted by the ever-charming Yvonne Orji, this live version of the beloved series promises even more drama, laughs, and, of course, romance.
With its quirky premise, the show became a viral hit, racking up over 50 million views on YouTube, and inspiring countless TikTok reactions, and even an SNL parody.
Now, the online streaming giant is levelling up the fun with real-time eliminations, celebrity appearances, and all the unpredictability of live television.
What's the show about?
For the uninitiated, the show is a speed-dating series where love, or rejection (which happens in a single pop of the balloon) occurs.
Contestants hold red balloons, which they can either pop to signal disinterest in a suitor, or keep intact if they see the potential for romance.
But there’s a twist: the bachelor or bachelorette at the centre of the action can pop balloons, too!
The last suitor left holding their balloon has the chance to explore a new connection, or risk going home deflated.
The Netflix adaptation will follow this same format but with exciting new twists.
Expect surprise celebrity appearances, live audience interactions, and even higher stakes as singles navigate love in real time.
Orji, best known for her role as the unlucky-in-love Molly Carter on HBO’s "Insecure", is stepping into the role of host for the Netflix edition.
“After playing the ‘unlucky in love’ Molly Carter for five seasons on 'Insecure', I know a thing or two about looking for love in a hopeless place. Hopefully, the singles on 'Pop the Balloon LIVE' will have much more success."
"As host, I’m looking forward to striking that delicate balance of heart, and humour for our daters and the Netflix audience at home," she shared in a press statement.
Her wit, charm, and relatability make Orji the perfect fit to guide contestants (and viewers) through the high-pressure world of balloon-popping romance.
From viral YouTube hit to Netflix phenomenon
Creators Bolia "BM" Matundu, and Arlette Amuli, a Phoenix-based married couple, couldn’t be prouder of their show’s evolution.
What started as a small YouTube project has grown into a global phenomenon.
Now serving as executive producers for the Netflix version, the duo shared their excitement: “We’re thrilled to see 'Pop the Balloon' take on a new life on Netflix. From day one, we’ve kept love and fun at the heart of the show, and watching it evolve and soar beyond our wildest dreams has been truly exciting.”
With its mix of humour, heartbreak, and hope, the show has tapped into something universal: the thrill of finding love in the most unexpected ways.
Celebrity guests and new twists
The Netflix reboot promises to up the ante with celebrity appearances from fan-favourite reality stars like Johnny Bananas, Chase DeMoor, Zaina Sesay, and even Farrah Abraham.
The live format will also introduce unexpected twists, and real-time eliminations, giving viewers at home the chance to experience the drama as it unfolds.
Whether it’s a whirlwind romance or a hilariously awkward rejection, the show guarantees must-watch TV every week.
It’s not just the premise that has fans buzzing it’s the show’s relatability. It captures the awkward, exhilarating, and often messy reality of modern dating, all wrapped up in a fun and lighthearted package.
TikTok clips of the original series have gone viral for a reason: they’re as funny as they are cringe-worthy.
One fan tweeted, “The fact that 'Pop the Balloon' is coming to Netflix is EVERYTHING. I’ve been obsessed with the clips on TikTok, and now I get to watch it live. Sign me up!”
Another added, “Finally, a dating show that doesn’t take itself too seriously. I can’t wait for Yvonne Orji to host I already know she’s going to be hilarious!”
If you’ve ever found yourself glued to YouTube binge-watching the show's clips, or endlessly scrolling TikTok for highlights, this is your chance to experience the magic live.
