As screams of joy and ululation spread throughout the Sandton restaurant where the winner of “Big Brother Mzansi” season 5 was announced last night, his best friend or "big brother" Sakhile Mabena, said this was surreal.
"These are things we wished for when we were younger, when we used to talk to each other while we were at university. I am so proud of Sweet Guluva."
Mabena was talking moments after Sweet Guluva, who walked away with the title as well as the R2 million grand prize, was announced as the winner. Mabena had been standing next to the winner's mom, who was dressed in a stunning red dress, when the announcement was made and blessed himself in thanks when his friend was announced as the winner.

The winner, whose real name is Akhonamathemba Mbele, was also in disbelief when he was pronounced the winner. He threw his hands on face and was in shock.
And the personality you saw on screen is exactly what Sweet Guluva is all about, said his friend. "I am so glad he got to show the world who he really is. What you saw is who he is. He is a good guy and at res we would look after each other, if one never had food the other would help out."'
The 23-year-old winner was charismatic, charming and resilient from the moment he entered the house, earning him legions of fans, many of them at the Sandton function last night. With his blend of creativity, charm and determination, Guluva captivated the audience and outdid his fellow housemates.
Sweet Guluva had an army of support at the announcement last night. Fans, friends and family filled the restaurant and broke out in screams and ululations when he was announced as the winner.
Fans and supporters plus Sweet Guluva's family all started hugging each other, some cried and some were screaming in joy.
Fans said they had predicted the win, and they ensured it happened by voting.
Of course, the competition was fierce and the other top four housemates Jojo, Nate, Nsuku, and Uyanda gave it their all. Each brought their own strengths and strategies to the game, making this heated season one to remember.
Jojo, the underdog mastermind, shocked everyone with her strategic gameplay. She made it to the finale after controlling the game like a chess master. No one saw her coming but she proved all her doubters wrong.
Meanwhile, Nate played her game silently but effectively, as a silent instigator. She stirred the pot from behind the scenes, strategically placing people where she wanted them. Some housemates saw her stunts from the beginning and the others caught on late but her game was well played, which placed her in the top five.
Nsuku proved to be an unbreakable force, showcasing her resilience and confidence. Her unique entry into the house, where she was chosen by fellow housemates, didn't hinder her from quickly establishing herself as a confident and outspoken individual.
And Uyanda, the fighter, was relentless in his pursuit of the crown. It’s undeniable that he fought from the very beginning, showing determination and courage. If there’s one thing Uyanda did during his stay in the Big Brother house, it’s to show just how badly he wanted the crown.
But in the end, the viewers decided and chose Sweet Guluva as the ultimate winner.
