Roshan Dulabh popularly known as DJ RSHN, has been making waves nationally and internationally with his specific brand of fusion music.

Starting his DJing career at the age of 13, RSHN has delved into various genres of music, before settling on a fusion that he holds close to his heart.

“I play indo-tech, which is basically a fusion of Bollywood and Afro-tech house music. I played a lot of local music like house, amapiano and tech music, but at the same time I was also doing a lot of bhangra events, so over the past couple of years, I have transitioned and fused all of it into one.

“It has allowed me to play my mixes both at Indian and non-Indian event spaces,” he said.

He added that he needed to bridge the gap because he was fighting between the two genres.

“I love Bollywood and tech, thankfully, I managed to blend it quite well and the fans love it, so it worked out well for me.”

A civil engineer by day and a DJ by night, RSHN is working extra hard to secure his place in the music industry.

In October, he will be performing at the Ponta do Ouro Spring Festival in Mozambique, then he will head to London where he is billed to play at a number of events.

RSHN will end the year off with tours in Dubai and India.

“When you crack the international DJing market it takes you to a new level. People overseas love South African music and DJs. They play our music all across the world. My goal is to secure my place on the international stage and play at stadiums” he said.

Sharing his success story, RSHN said that he started DJing at his high school social events, later he transitioned to playing at pre-wedding and wedding celebrations.

“I used all the money I made from my gigs to pay for my engineering studies. At this point I also catapulted into the club and festival space. Since then, I have been book all over Southern Africa to do all the big Indian events and festivals as well as internationally.”

Aside from being a DJ, RSHN has established RSHN Live, a production company that consists of a full team featuring two dhol (double-headed drum) players, a Djembé (skin-covered goblet drum) player, a saxophonist and a violinist.

Having both, a full time job and a successful DJing career keeps RSHN on his toes.

“I use to struggle quite a bit to balance it, but I’ve managed to get it right now. I travel quite a bit for work during the week and on a Friday afternoon I usually fly out to which ever destination I need to be in and on Monday morning I get back to work.

“It’s a hectic schedule but the events that I’ve done over the past two to three years have been mainly big festivals, so I don’t complain, all the events that I’ve always wanted to perform in have come my way.”

Taking inspiration from DJ Kent and DJ Fresh, RSHN’s advice for up and coming DJ’s is to remain consistent, work hard and keep away from the industry politics.

“People must keep out of politics, they must believe in their music and brand and consistency is key.

“If you think that you have what it takes to make it, don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise. If you give out the best work you possibly can, doors will open up,” added RSHN.
