Parents have expressed their concerns over a high school teacher whose bizarre behaviour is raising eyebrows and causing concern among the community.

Allegations have surfaced online that a teacher at Marsden State High School in Queensland, Australia, has been acting in a feline manner during class, reportedly insisting that students call her “Miss Purr”.

She also allegedly hisses at them and licks the back of her hands.

Photographs have surfaced online, showing the teacher adorned in a black and white cat ear headband and a lanyard embellished with the word “purr”.

According to the online reports, frustrated parents claimed that such attire contributes to a “circus atmosphere” rather than a place of learning.

The site said that parents have taken to social media to voice their discontent, with some relatives of students describing incidents where the teacher allegedly hissed when students failed to respond appropriately.

The site stated that a parent said: “She forces the children to call her Miss Purr and screeches and growls when they don’t listen.”

Others have reported even more bizarre interactions, including claims that the teacher made their children “purr” in exchange for treats.

In response to the escalating concerns, the Queensland Department of Education has apparently acknowledged the complaints.

According to reports, a spokesperson assured parents that the principal of Marsden State High School is addressing the matter directly with the teacher involved.

The spokesperson reiterated that conduct of this nature is deemed unacceptable within the state’s educational system, insisting that “teachers are held to the highest standards of professionalism and ethics.”

Meanwhile, on X, netizens have weighed in on the matter.

@reesespeices jokingly wrote: “The School should provide a cat litter tray in the corner of the classroom and said 'cat' should be required to use it ... Play silly games ...Get stupid prizes.”

@karhugau commented: “You can't make this sh** up. Why is someone who identifies as a cat allowed to teach children it's a joke.”
