The 2025 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met, hosted by Cape Racing took place over the weekend at the Hollywoodbets Kenilworth Racecourse and it was a fashion feast.

The World Sports Betting Cape Town Met’s fashion showcase, inspired by the daring theme 'Couture Unleashed,' celebrated South Africa’s rich talent and diverse design perspectives.

Renowned fashion designer Gavin Rajah, curated the showcase which featured nine exceptional designers, each pushing the boundaries of innovation and craftsmanship to deliver breath-taking collections.

Masango by fashion designer Siphesihle Masango showcased for the first time and was both nervous and excited to present his art to the world. His collection had a lot of embellishments, textures, volume and corsets.

“The collection is very youthful, it’s young but it’s also very dressy. When I thought of Cape Town I thought luxury, easy, breezy and a little sexy. I got a meme made and it’s a biblical reference. I was like ‘if Deliah had an iPhone’.

“The meme is basically Deliah when she is about to cut Samson’s hair off and if Deliah had an iPhone, she would be pulling it out to take a snap. That is a new print I am introducing.”

Another element of the collection reflects Masango’s Ndebele culture, as part of his clan name is ‘iphondo elibomvu’. “Red is a very special colour to me, I always try to run away from it but it always finds me. It just has a way to captivate me, so there’s a lot of red and white, black pieces.”

Mzukisi Mbane, founder and creative director of Imprint also showcased a collection at the Cape Town Met. For the collection, Mbane wanted to tap into something different, and his Xhosa tradition. “There’s more solid involved in the print”.

Mbane commented that the fashion showcase allows fashion to be accessible for people. "A lot of people come to the Met expecting it to be just a horseracing event. When they get there and get to experience the top designers, they wouldn't necessarily be able to”.

Other designers who showcased are Craig Port, Kim Govaars, Gavin Rajah, Thula Sindi, Stephen van Eeden, Ramo Jozsy, Ramo Jozsy and Cindy Bam.
