Durban - Consumers have been urged to be money wise this festive season as another petrol price increase kicks in at midnight

This was announced by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.

Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA, said that motorists and commuters would have to fork out more for petrol just ahead of the festive season, while there will be decreases in the prices of both grades of diesel, illuminated paraffin and LP gas.

“The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced today that petrol increases from midnight with both 93 and 95 unleaded costing 59c a litre more. Diesel consumers however have cause for celebration as they will pay between R1.52 and R1.57 a litre less from tomorrow. Illuminating paraffin users can cook their Christmas dinner with a happy heart as they will pay almost R2 a litre less, while gas will cost 76 cents less per kg.”

Moyo added that although petrol remains more expensive than a year ago, the current price of R23.46 is still below the all-time high of R26.74 seen in July this year.

“UASA encourages its members to be money wise this December. Those who will be travelling for the holidays would do well to check their spending as the January back-to-school expenses are around the corner. We urge our members and all commuters to be vigilant, observe and obey the rules of the road over the next few weeks and into the New Year.”
