Those looking to partake in the Umkhonto WeSizwe Party (MKP) gala dinner celebrations this month can expect to fork out a minimum of R25 000 for a single ticket.
The MKP has detailed the exclusive packages available for the gala dinner, with the most expensive costing R2 million.
The party is celebrating its first anniversary this month, with most of the celebrations taking place in Durban. The main rally will be hosted at the Moses Mabhida Stadium and will be addressed by party leader and former state president Jacob Zuma, while the gala dinner will be held at the Olive Convention Centre.
The MKP stunned opposition parties in the recent national government elections, becoming the biggest party in KwaZulu-Natal and the third biggest party in the country.
Since then, it has continued to attract high-profile politicians to its ranks as it looks to build for the future.
In a statement posted on its social media platform, the party said, “MKP proudly announces its first anniversary celebrations, marking a significant milestone in our journey for growth, unity and leadership.
“These events aim not only to celebrate our achievement but also to raise funds to support the future of the organisation.”
For the hospitality packages for the main rally on December 15 at the stadium, individual access tickets will cost R5 000, granting them access to the stadium hospitality suite, food and drinks and for the MK regalia.
The corporate hospitality suite for 30 people will cost R150 000.
A party member, speaking on condition of anonymity as they are not authorised to speak to the media, said there was a lot of excitement across the province. “There are a lot of activations happening across KwaZulu-Natal. We are expecting thousands of people to be deployed from many different regions. We expect some regions will deploy as many as 20 000 people.
“The excitement is so huge that there is a possibility that Moses Mabhida
Stadium will be filled to capacity, and we might have to utilise venues outside the stadium to accommodate the overflow of people. For a party like MKP to celebrate its one-year anniversary, it’s a huge deal.”
The member also spoke about possible changes to the way the party operates in the legislature, giving an ominous warning: “Watch the space there; something is going to happen sooner rather than later,” said the member.
While the MKP has the most seats in the legislature, it is not in charge of the province because the DA, IFP and NFP formed a Government of Provincial Unity, leaving the MKP out of governing.
The party wants to bring a motion of no confidence in the KZN Premier Thami Ntuli and says it is holding talks with ‘friendlies’ in the ANC and EFF.
“There are high-level underground negotiations ongoing regarding that. I do not want to let it leak what those are but I can tell you, something is going to happen there,” said the party member.
Another party member stated that based on the reactions on the ground during meetings with the public as part of the activations, they expect a good response from the public.
“It has been phenomenal; we are going to fill up Moses Mabhida, no doubt.”
