Durban – The University of South Africa (Unisa) says it granted a time extension to students who were affected by technical glitches during this week’s online exams.
But for those students who were unable to complete the exams even with the extension, their matters would be investigated on a case by case basis.
Unisa said in a statement on Tuesday apologised to students for the technical challenges that were experienced during some online exams that took place on October 24 and 25.
The university said it was also communicating with affected students through its official communication platforms and its colleges.
It said students were delayed by 30 minutes to start their exams and in order not to disadvantage students, the university added 45 minutes recovery time.
“Unisa reassures students that those who could not proceed with the rest of the affected exam sessions even after the university has extended the duration of the sessions in question, their cases would be investigated.”
The university reminded students to read the exam announcements that the university published on its platforms.
“These are aimed at assisting students to know where to go should they experience glitches while writing exams.”
Unisa said in cases of emergency, Unisa posted announcements on the homepage of myUnisa at https://my.unisa.ac.za.
Lecturers also posted information on the module and exam sites when issues arose, it said.
“Having said that, the university wishes all Unisans who are sitting for remaining examinations success. Please give it your best shot. Unisa strives to ensure that the security and credibility of its exams is always enhanced.”
