DURBAN - During the 107th birthday bash, as well as the unveiling of the ANC’s election manifesto on January 12, President Cyril Ramaphosa said the ANC and South Africans shared compassion for Palestinians and other parts of the world gripped by war and instability.

Ramaphosa said the party was resolute in its support for the aspirations of the Palestinian people and condemned the occupation of Palestinian territory and the suppression of their rights.

So why, I ask him, is our embassy still open for business in Israel? Why hasn’t government heeded the Mangaung Resolution of 2017?

As I boldly declare my disappointment, I add that the ANC support for Palestine is a fig leaf support at best.

Shut down the embassy, Mr President, and spare us your threnodial speech - a visible election ploy - if I am to be proven wrong.

Actions speak louder than words and platitudes.
