DURBAN - The report, “Shock at viral video of Home Affairs,” in The Mercury (January 15) refers. The video clearly shows a lady being attended to and two officials on their phones.

You will notice the official looking at the computer screen. I am sure the computer was off-line at that stage. I know both the officials very well. They are always assisting and attend to the needs of any applicant.

My advice to applicants is to not leave things for the last minute and find fault with the officials.

My interaction with these officials goes back to when I was a police official. My message to the staff at the Department of Home Affairs office in Tongaat is that you all are doing a splendid job don’t let negative publicity bring you down. These are a few frustrated applicants. To the applicants: patience is a virtue.

CONSULT: Home Affairs. The report, “Shock at viral video of Home Affairs,” in The Mercury (January 15) refers. The video clearly shows a lady being attended to and two officials on their phones, says the writer.
