Port-Au-Prince - A cholera epidemic has claimed the lives of more than 200 people in Haiti, a top health ministry official said Saturday.

“We have recorded more than 208 dead,” Gabriel Thimote, the ministry's director general, said at a news conference.

He said most of the victims were in the rural Artibonite region of central Haiti, the focus of the quake-ravaged country's first cholera outbreak in over a century. - Sapa-AFP
