Moscow - A police officer and a homeless man have been arrested in connection with a deadly attack on a Russian cash-in-transit van in June, the Ria Novosti news agency reported Tuesday.

The two men attracted Russian investigators' attention after using some of the loot - which amounted to about $4,3-million - to purchase luxury cars, houses and a vacation at the Black Sea, a judicial spokesman was quoted as saying.

The suspects had reportedly collaborated with one of the three guards who were executed inside the van during the attack, which occurred in the centre of the Russian capital Moscow.

The cash transport, which involved money belonging to one of Russia's largest banks, was conducted by a private security firm.

The accomplice guard reportedly shot his two colleagues during the heist. But the 27-year-old was then also killed by his partners in crime because he was deemed too dangerous an accessory. - Sapa-dpa
