Tegucigalpa - Fourteen people, including three Americans, were killed when a small plane crashed close to the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa, authorities said on Monday.

The twin-engined Let L-410 was on a regular flight between the northern city of San Pedro Sula and the capital when it crashed in Las Mesitas, 20km north of Tegucigalpa, authorities said.

There were no survivors.

Three US citizens were among the dead, while the remainder on board were Honduran, authorities said.

“The last report we had was that the pilot was in an area of low visibility when he was trying to reach the runway,” said Francisco Pacheco, manager of local airline Central American Airways. - Reuters
