The nine-year old girl killed in the shooting rampage that targeted Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was laid to rest. Christina Taylor Green's funeral came a day after President Barack Obama made her the centerpiece of his memorial speech, urging that her death inspire Americans to end radical political confrontation. Green, a precocious third-grader who had just been elected to her school's student council, was shot as she was trying to meet the congresswoman on Saturday. As the youngest victim of the harrowing attack her death immediately became a symbol of the senseless crime.

A huge flag recovered from the destroyed World Trade Centre in New York was hung outside the church where her funeral took place, in recognition of her birth date on the day of the terrorist attacks on the US on September 11, 2001.
