A man who drove 82km with his wife clinging to the bonnet of his minivan after an argument has been jailed for five years, a report has said.

According to Mail Online, Christopher Carroll, 26, from California, admitted attempted murder and spousal abuse as prosecutors accepted his actions were not premeditated.

His wife Rebecca, 25, had stood in front of the van as he tried to drive away.

The report said that

San Joaquin County Superior Court was told how Rebecca had clung to the windscreen wipers and side mirror as her husband reached speeds of 160km/h swerving through traffic in a bid to throw her off.

She claimed in court that Carroll even turned up the car radio to drown out her screams, the report said.

“I knew if I let go I would be unidentifiable road kill,” she was quoted as saying. “He has no remorse that I was within one inch of my life.”

Motorists raised the alarm before Carroll pulled over.

Rebecca was treated for hypothermia by emergency crews due to the 7 degrees Centigrade temperature and high winds. - IOL
