Munich - German police on Saturday confirmed the arrest of a man suspected of murdering two girls in their home in the southern town of Krailling.

The 50-year-old suspect was identified by media as the uncle of the victims - Sharon, 11, and Chiara, 8.

Police said he was arrested after undergoing a voluntary DNA test, which matched samples found at the crime scene. The man had not confessed to the double murder on the night of March 23.

The girls were killed in the apartment they shared with their mother, who was out working at a nearby pub at the time. She had left the apartment door unlocked in case an emergency forced her daughters to leave.

Police said they still had no motive for the murder, which state prosecutor Andrea Titz said was characterised by “malice.” -
