A mother loading her two-year-old child into an vehicle was killed and five others were wounded in a gunbattle at a shopping centre in south Sacramento, California. Two men were reportedly in a barber shop just before 1pm when two other men came in and started shooting. The men in the barber shop were armed and returned fire. The gunbattle apparently moved into the parking lot, where Curran said a bullet struck the mother. The child was unhurt.

At least one person with a gunshot wound was taken to a hospital.
