London - A British Cabinet minister says Prince Andrew will have to decide whether he can continue his role as a trade envoy amid a controversy about his links to an American businessman convicted of soliciting prostitution from underage girls.

Vince Cable, the business secretary, said on Monday that Andrew had volunteered for his trade promotion role and it was essentially up to the prince whether he continued.

Cable told BBC radio: “Obviously there are conversations that will take place with him about what he is to do in future. That is simply a matter of managing the relationship.”

British media have reported on Andrew's friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, the New York billionaire jailed for soliciting underage prostitutes in Florida. - Sapa-AP
