Two Honduran soldiers and three policemen have been injured and about 50 protesters detained in clashes with supporters of ousted former president Manuel Zelaya. Authorities say police were attacked with sticks and stones as they used tear gas to clear protesters blocking streets in several Honduran cities. Teachers' union leader Eulogio Chavez says the police "used barbarity and repression against us." Many of those detained were teachers.

Assistant national police director Rene Avila said demonstrations involved about 5 000 people.
