Quake hits Washington DC

A small 3.6 magnitude quake shook the Washington area on Friday morning, but there were no reports of injuries or damage in a region where quakes are fairly uncommon.

The quake struck about 5:05am (0905 GMT), waking many people in the the District of Columbia and suburban Maryland and Virginia.

The quake was centred near Gaithersburg, Maryland, about 20 miles (32km) northwest of the US capital, at a depth of 3 miles (5km), the US Geological Survey said. - Reuters
