Washington - Officials say House Republicans intend to unveil legislation as early as Wednesday to ban the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.

The bill is ticketed for quick progress through the House, and is likely to draw strong opposition from the Obama administration.

Officials familiar with the planned measure say it would nullify all steps the EPA has taken to date on the issue, including a finding that greenhouse gases constitute a danger to public health and welfare.

It also seeks to strip the agency of authority to use the law in future attempts to crack down on the emissions from factories, utilities and other stationary sources.

The officials described the plans on condition of anonymity, saying they could not pre-empt a formal announcement. - Sapa-AP
