A South African plastic surgeon now based in the UK faces a compensation claim of R625 8 million from a woman who alleges he botched her facelift, the UK's MailOnline reported on Thursday.
Penny Johnson, 49, claims she was forced to stand down as director of an international financial and IT consultancy after nerve damage around her cheek and eye.
She apparently has “uncontrollable facial movement, pain around the right eye and grimacing” as a result of the “experimental” cosmetic procedure, the publication reported.
“The mother of three is seeking R625.8 million in damages from highly-experienced cosmetic surgeon, Dr Le Roux Fourie, who, she claims, tried to cover up his mistake. Since 2008, Fourie, 55, who is originally from South Africa, has been in full-time private practice based in Methley Park Hospital, near Leeds.”
According to the report, a high court heard that although Fourie admits negligence, his legal team disputes the botched surgery was to blame for Johnson's financial losses. The publication said he could face bankruptcy if the action is successful. A neighbour of Johnson's was quoted as saying she has been left with “a twitchy eye and she seems to have lost some weight”. - Sapa
