Nissan is set to release its new Qashqai early next year and although official pictures have yet to be released, some of the details are starting to emerge.
In an interview with Auto Express, Nissan's product planning boss Andy Palmer said that the new crossover will boast innovative technology and styling and it won't look too much like the current model.
Set to share a new modular platform with a number of new mid-sized Nissan and Renault vehicles, the Qashqai will also receive some new engines.
Auto Express reports that the entry-level 1.6-litre engine will be replaced by Nissan's high-tech DIG-S 1.2-litre three-cylinder supercharged motor, with an expected output of 84kW.
No word on the bigger engines, but we'd happily entertain the possibility of Nissan's 140kW 1.6-litre DIG-T currently found in the Juke range-topper.
As for diesels, the Qashqai is expected to sport a 96kW 1.6-litre turbo unit that's already available on current UK models and there will reportedly be an even more efficient plug-in hybrid petrol model on offer, albeit at quite a price.
Like the current Qashqai, the new one will be built in the UK and it's expected to go on sale in that market in early 2014 following its official reveal at the end of this year. With a little luck, we should get our first units before the middle of next year.
