AMG rejuvenates junior C 63

We've already seen the Mercedes-Benz C-Class facelift and now the company has revealed the C 63 AMG version, which gets more than just a new face - there's been some useful tinkering beneath the skin too.

Although it retains the familiar naturally aspirated 6.2-litre V8 (instead of opting for AMG's new 5.5-litre twin-turbo), outputs thus remaining at 336kW and 600Nm, AMG is also offering a performance package that pushes out around 358kW. The upgrade consists of forged pistons and a new crankshaft among other additions.

However, all versions of the new C 63 get AMG's latest MCT seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox (complete with launch control), replacing the outdated conventional automatic that it was previously laden with.

According to company claims, the new 'box improves fuel efficiency by around 10 percent - from 13.4 l/100 to 12 l/100 on that unrealistic EU cycle.

Road holding is also said to have improved thanks to some suspension tinkering by AMG.

Visually, as with other new C-Class models, the biggest changes have occurred to the front end, where SL-like headlamps create a sportier appearance, while the AMG is further distinguished by a single-spoke grille. As before, an AMG body kit, also including bolder bumpers at both ends and a huge rear diffuser, perks up the C 63 from every angle.

Like before the C 63 will be available in both sedan and estate guises and revised model will make its first public appearance at (you guessed it) the Geneva Motor Show in March.
