Call this a hairdresser's car at your own peril! BBM Racing, known for creating the original Mazda MX-5 turbo back in 1990, has worked its magic on Mazda's latest roadster.
Force fed? You bet! In its BBM state of tune the MX-5's 2-litre four-cylinder motor whips out 200kW at 7350rpm and 307Nm at 5100rpm, a substantial hike from the standard car's 118kW/188Nm outputs.
This, according to the tuner, will get the BBR GT270 from 0 to 60mph (96km/h) in just 4.9 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 241km/h.
So what exactly did they do under the bonnet?
A lot, in fact. But the key ingredient is a Garret GT series turbo with a cast iron manifold and peak boost pressure of 7psi.
BBR also threw in a high-flow aluminium intercooler, recirculating piston-type dump valve, Bosch high flow fuel injectors, high flow airbox and an upgraded Exedy clutch.
Furthermore, the Starchip EcuTek ECU software gives the MX-5 a launch control function and auto throttle blip for gear down-changes.
BBM is only building 100 of these and they're available in the UK at £29 995 (R490 000).
Those willing to fork out more can have a BBR suspension upgrade, which includes Koni adjustable dampers, as well as a performance braking upgrade and a sports exhaust.
