Mercedes-Benz has extended its South African C-Class line-up with a new package - the Edition C - that's available for any C-Class sedan, coupé and estate models, as well as a series of multimedia and telematics upgrades and, last but not least, a new derivative in the shape of the C300.

Available in either sedan or estate format, it comes with a 3.5-litre direct-injection petrol V6 rated at 185kW and 340Nm, and reportedly capable of 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds with a terminal velocity of 250km/h.

Standard kit includes Comand Online multimedia system with live traffic information, which delivers traffic data in real time, providing advance warnings of traffic hold-ups. Its standard-issue Audio 20 CD/radio also incorporates a digital bus to provide a built-in media interface, while a Harman Kardon Logic 7 surround sound system is available as an option.

SPECIAL “EDITION C” TRIM

Edition C is all about distinctive style without bling, starting from a special grille with high-gloss black louvres and chrome trim flanked by darkened headlight clusters, an AMG front apron, side sill panels and rear bumper, and set off by chromed tailpipe trims and "Edition C" badging.

Sedan and estate variants run 17" five-spoked light-alloy rims finished in high-gloss black, shod with 225/45 rubber; two-door models (as well as sedan and estates ordered with the Avantgarde package) come with 18" alloys.

CONTRAST STITCHING

The Edition C interior is all black, trimmed in mixed Artico synthetic leather and Dinamica microfibre fabric with two-tone contrast topstitching in blue and grey and dark brushed-aluminium trim elements.

The three-spoked multifunction sports steering wheel is trimmed in nappa leather with grey contrast stitching, and the 114mm multifunction colour display in the instrument cluster includes an attention assist function.

The shift/selector lever gaiter and the Dinamica-trimmed door centre panels also feature grey contrast stitching, as do the velour floor mats and black headlining.

BOTTOM LINE

The "Edition C" package will add R5900 to the price of any C-Class sedan, coupé and estate model, except for the new C300 Edition which comes in at R499 443 with all the special-edition trim already in place.
