Nissan has announced a huge global recall to fix a potentially deadly steering glitch in 841 000 vehicles.
According to the global statement, this affects Nissan Micra and Cube models that were built in Japan between 2002 and 2006 and Nissan South Africa says that around 7000 local Micra hatchbacks are affected and that customers will be contacted in due course.
THE PROBLEM
The worst case scenario here is that the steering wheel might not function, due to a bolt that might not have been tightened properly.
However, Nissan spokeswoman Noriko Yoneyama states that no accidents, injuries or deaths have been reported as yet.
Nissan South Africa promises that its dealers will tighten the steering wheel fixing bolt to the correct torque at no cost to the customer.
"Nissan is committed to a high level of customer safety, service and satisfaction and is working with its dealers to promptly address this issue," the local statement said.
