Mazda's UK arm is celebrating the success of its MX-5 GT race car with two road-going special editions: one is based on the MX-5 and for those on tighter budgets there's also a special Mazda2.
Taking on established race cars from Lotus, Ferrari and BMW, the 850kg MX-5 GT racer enjoyed two podiums in its first year and currently sits third in its class.
Sadly there are no race-inspired weight-saving measures on the road-going MX-5 'Black Limited Edition' - which is available in a range three colours that don't resemble black in any way - but this limited edition does pour on the style.
The roadster is visually distinguished by a 'Brilliant Black' electrically-retractable hard-top and dark 'gun metal' 17-inch alloy wheels. The cabin adds a black leather interior with contrasting 'sand' colour stitching, Piano Black steering wheel and deco panel, and unique 'Black Limited Edition' exterior badging, uniquely numbered interior plaque and Limited Edition floor mats.
Only 500 examples of the Mazda MX-5 Sport Black will be produced, each powered by Mazda's familiar 118kW 2-litre, six-speed manual gearbox.
Mazda is also offering a 'Black Limited Edition' of its 1.3-litre Mazda3 hatchback, kitted out with a black vinyl roof, matt black 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, privacy glass and a sports trim for the rear bumper. Like the MX-5, this one's available in Spirited Green metallic, Crystal White Pearlescent and True Red paint colours and you'll also find the numbered plaque and bespoke floor mats inside.
The company will produce just 618 examples of this one.
