The Nissan Leaf is not just saving the world by making battery-powered transport more attainable, it seems its creators also want to save the human race from its own stupidity behind the wheel.
While Nissan's Leaf NSC-2015 concept is certainly not the first self-driving vehicle ever created, it does have some interesting tricks up its sleeve.
Unveiled at the Ceatec electronics and IT show in Japan recently, the NSC-2015 focuses on details like reducing the time-loss that parking takes.
The car parks itself and returns to pick you up, while the owner's cellphone (connected to Nissan's Automated Valet Parking technology) allows him or her to maintain full control remotely.
The car can also chase thieves away.
Its all-around view camera can alert the driver when there is suspicious activity around the car and the driver then has the option of setting off the alarm.
Which, we must add, is a far friendlier solution than the flame-spitting anti-hijacking device allegedly invented in South Africa a decade or so ago.
As you would have gathered by reading its name, the NSC will be fully viable by 2015, says Nissan.
