Cape Town police have arrested three people following the gruesome discovery of a 29-year-old Gugulethu woman’s body inside a wheelie bin in Manenberg.

A commuter walking along Duinefontein Road near the canal stumbled upon the shocking scene when they noticed the woman’s legs protruding from the bin.

Police Confirm Arrests in Wheelie Bin Murder

Police spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk confirmed the arrests, stating:

"Manenberg Detectives worked tirelessly to solve the murder of the 29-year-old female. A 57-year-old male and two women, aged 25 and 26, have been arrested on charges of murder. Investigations are ongoing, and further arrests cannot be ruled out."

A post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Second Wheelie Bin Murder in Cape Town This Month

Shockingly, this is the second body found in a wheelie bin in Cape Town in March.

Steenberg police have launched a murder investigation after a charred body was discovered inside a wheelie bin on Joe Marks Boulevard near the canal on Sunday, 2 March 2025.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident, stating:

"Steenberg police have registered a murder case after the burnt body of an unidentified male was found in a wheelie bin on Sunday night. A passerby discovered the body and alerted the police. The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation, and no arrests have been made yet."

Community in Shock

Speaking to the Daily Voice, Nicola Small, chairperson of the Steenberg Community Police Forum, described the discovery as deeply disturbing.

"Authorities were alerted to a fire and responded swiftly. The incident remains under investigation, and I have no further details at this time. This tragedy has left our community in shock. SAPS urges anyone with information to come forward, as it is deeply unsettling to think that someone could commit such a horrific act."

Police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist in both investigations.
