Tshepiso Mofokeng, a 33-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after assaulting his girlfriend in the Free State.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Sergeant Palesa Thabana said the woman told the police that she was at a tavern in Meloding with her boyfriend on Saturday, November 30 at 2am when they were approached by an unknown man who asked to talk privately with her boyfriend.
"She further alleged that during their conversation, she overheard the unknown male saying to her boyfriend, 'you can have her'," said Thabana.
She went on to say that her boyfriend returned and grabbed her forcibly before reportedly beating her.
He dragged her outside and drove away into the bushes, where he began to assault the victim. He reportedly hit her with his car, and while she was on the ground, drove over her.
She sustained several significant wounds. Mofokeng drove with her to the hospital and dropped her off. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
In a similar case in May 15, 2023, a man from Durban, KwaZulu tried to run over his wife and ended up shooting her. Fortunately, she survived, and she was hospitalised.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson, Kyle van Reenen said emergency services staff were told about the shooting after 2pm.
"Emer-G-Med paramedics together with ALS paramedic services and Mobi Claw responded to the scene of a shooting incident outside a primary school in the Berea West area," he said.
Van Reenen went on to say that according to accounts from the scene, a person thought to be her husband, tried to run her over with a bakkie before smashing into a precast concrete wall.
He then exited his vehicle, pulled a firearm, and fired multiple rounds at her, hitting her, before fleeing the scene.
