A body of a man who is believed to have been strangled was discovered in a bush in Zwelisha, KwaZulu-Natal.

In a statement, Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) said their centre was contacted and informed about a discovery of a body in the bushes on Wednesday around 7am.

“On arrival, officers and paramedics hiked approximately one kilometre to access the scene where the body of a man was located along a footpath.

“A black t-shirt was found wrapped around his neck. He is believed to have been strangled, but this is yet to be confirmed,” said RUSA.

RUSA added that the man had also sustained abrasions to his face.

“His identity has been established and the motive for the murder is unknown at this stage,” added RUSA.

Last week, a body of a 42-year-old man was discovered floating in a dam near Meadows Road in Free State.

Provincial Police spokesperson, Sergeant Mahlomola Kareli said that at around 9.45am, Bloemspruit police got information about a Toyota Corolla that had been abandoned near the dam.

“A patrol vehicle was dispatched to the scene and found a blue Toyota Corolla with Free State registration numbers and doors unlocked,” said Kareli.

“The team started searching for the occupants of the vehicle around the dam and discovered the body of a male floating in the water. Bloemfontein Diving Unit were summoned to the scene and the body was identified.”

The 42-year-old male victim’s relatives last saw him driving the vehicle on Friday, October 25.

Bloemspruit police are looking into an inquest.
