Fighting violence through reading, Hope-Tshepo in partnership with a visionary community-based organisation has hosted their first reading competition which has left people flabbergasted for high school learners in Sol Plaatjie community Hall.
Hope-Tshepo is a registered non-profit organisation, which was initiated in 2021 to empower young talent in local communities through education and personal development.
This organisation has played its part of showing young people that their dreams and talents can make a difference for them. It has committed to fostering positive change and unlocking the full potential of individuals.
In the spirit of fostering positive change they held their first reading competition to promote youth advocacy through dialogue and literature.
What was happening in this competition?
In this competition each participant was given two articles from which to read – one was about the disastrous impacts of Gender Based Violence in South Africa and the other was about the June 16 Soweto Uprising.
This successful event was sponsored by C Mutale Attorneys and the Gauteng Department of Community Safety.
The ultimate winner was Ofentse Maltji, a learner from Siyabonga Siyabonga School (Braamfischerville), who walked away with a winter school uniform voucher, a watch and a gift book.
Hope-Tshepo says “This is a first of the series of events that the organisation and the partners have committed to roll out throughout the year and next year there will be a debate.”
