The Freedom Front Plus (FF Plus) has condemned recent actions by the Economic Freedom Fighters Student Council (EFFSC) at the University of Pretoria (UP), following an incident where EFF leader Julius Malema incited students by singing the controversial song “Kill the Boer.”

This comes after Malema delivered a public lecture at the University on Friday.

IOL previously reported that FF Plus opened a case of intimidation against Malema for chanting “Kill the Boer, Kill the Farmer” during the red berets' 10th-anniversary celebrations in Joburg last year.

The party is calling for immediate disciplinary action against the EFFSC, citing concerns over the creation of division and tension on campus.

In a formal letter to UP's Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Francis Petersen, the FF Plus emphasised the need for accountability.

Pieter Groenewald, leader of the FF Plus, stated, "Such racist incitement runs counter to all acceptable South African societal norms and should no longer be tolerated."

The University has responded by strongly condemning any form of incitement to violence, discrimination, or provocation, affirming its commitment to maintaining a "safe and inclusive environment" for all.

Groenewald also said the institution has pledged to take appropriate action against any staff or students involved in such conduct.

Groenewald highlighted the broader implications of the EFFSC's actions, noting that the damage caused "stretches much wider than the University's borders."

He further criticised the EFFSC, which was previously deregistered due to violent conduct, stating that its return to campus has proven to be detrimental.

The FF Plus is seeking clarity from Professor Petersen regarding the disciplinary measures that will be implemented against the students involved.

Groenewald added, "Incidents like these create tension that may jeopardise students' safety, as was the case last year."
