Two Mozambican nationals, aged 34 and 47, have been arrested by detectives in Mpumalanga following the brutal murder of a 41-year-old woman during a farm attack.

Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Donald Mdhluli said the murdered woman was identified by her family as Vinolia Sedibe.

“Members of the detective services from Lydenburg SAPS made a significant breakthrough in a case involving the murder of a 41-year-old woman, identified by her family as Vinolia Sedibe, during a farm attack on Monday, December 2 2024,” said Mdhluli.

The alleged killers were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the brutal murder.

“Their arrest emanates from an incident where two suspects stormed into a farmhouse, held two females hostage, and staged a house robbery. Tragically, one of the females was strangled. Thereafter, her body was discovered in the nearby bushes,” said Mdhluli.

“However, the quick response and investigation by the police detectives led to the swift apprehension of the suspects.”

Mdhluli said the two accused men are expected to appear before the Mashishing Magistrate's Court. They will face a charge of murder, house robbery, attempted rape and other related offences.

Meanwhile, acting provincial commissioner of police in Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has condemned the farm attack.

Mkhwanazi saluted the men and women in blue, as well as community members for their assistance with information regarding the case.

“It is deeply concerning that such a heinous crime occurred during the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children but we are encouraged that the suspects were apprehended,” said Mkhwanazi.
