Kimberley - An elderly woman, who was standing outside her house in Postmasburg, was killed when a car crashed into the house.
Netcare 911 spokesperson, Chris Botha, who described the scene as “horrific”, said that the woman, believed to be in her seventies, was standing outside when the vehicle came hurtling into the yard and crashed into her before smashing into the wall of the house.
“After the woman was examined, paramedics found that she had died on impact due to the extensive injuries she sustained."
“The elderly husband of the patient was standing just inside the house, and although not injured he was severely traumatised.”
According to Botha, reports from the scene of the accident, which happened in Tuin Street, indicated that the vehicle had failed to stop at a T-junction.
“Exact detail to the cause of the crash and preceding events will form part of the police investigation.”
The driver of the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was taken by the police for further investigation.
Two other occupants who were in the vehicle were uninjured and fled the scene.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sergio Kock, confirmed that the SAPS in Postmasburg were investigating a case of culpable homicide.
