As adverse weather continues to grapple KwaZulu-Natal, the power utility has confirmed restoration efforts are under way for the widespread power outages across the province.

Eskom in KZN said the province has been hard hit after heavy rains and storms.

The weather conditions have severely impacted its networks and caused some structural damage in some areas.

Eskom’s Joyce Zingoni said teams have been dispatched across the province.

“Our teams have already responded to several faults, and all available resources are on the ground working to restore supply as quickly as possible,” Zingoni said.

Areas that have been severely affected include Ingagane, Colenso, Nottingham Road, Underberg, Mandini, Ixopo, Melmoth, Mtubatuba, Eshowe, Stanger, Greytown, Wartburg, and Harding.

The province is currently facing Orange Level 6 and a  Yellow Level 4 warning for heavy rainfall, severe thunderstorms, flooding, strong winds, and hail until Friday.

Eskom said these conditions may hinder our restoration efforts in some areas.

“We appeal for patience from our customers, as some areas are inaccessible due to infrastructure damage. We assure you that every effort is being made to restore power safely and efficiently,” Zingoni said.

Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.

“The public is urged to treat all electrical installations as live and to stay away from fallen cables, damaged infrastructure, or any hazardous areas and to report them to local authorities immediately, or to Eskom channels,” Zingoni said.
