The South African Weather Service (Saws) has issued a weather warning for Gauteng and the western and southern parts of Mpumalanga on Thursday.

According to Saws, thunderstorms are expected to move in over southern Gauteng and southern Mpumalanga from late afternoon, moving in a northerly directions towards the rest of Gauteng and western parts of Mpumalanga in the evening.

"Scattered rainfall of 15 to 25mm can be expected with heavy downpours of between 30 to 40mm possible in some areas. This may lead to flooding in susceptible areas.

“There is also a possibility of large amounts of small hail mainly over the southern parts of Gauteng this afternoon," the forecaster warned.

This weather is likely to lead to flooding in low-lying areas due to heavy downpours and possibly cause flooding at informal settlements.

Meanwhile, the forecaster has issued two Yellow Level warnings over parts of the country on Friday.

A Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued for severe thunderstorms over the areas of Umtata, Aliwal North, Bloemfontein, Kimberly, Bethlehem, Welkom and Vryberg.

A Yellow Level 1 warning for damaging winds has been issued for areas between Plettenberg Bay and Coffee Bay of the Eastern Cape.
