Businesses in the Rosslyn industrial site and customers in surrounding areas will be left without electricity for 12 hours on Sunday due to a planned maintenance operation by the City of Tshwane.
The planned power outage is scheduled to begin at 8am and end at 8pm as part of essential upgrades and maintenance work, according to MMC for Utility Services France Boshielo.
He said the outage is necessary to relocate the 35 MVA transformer from the 132/11 kV Gomsand substation to the 132/11 kV Rosslyn substation.
“This will include the commissioning of the 11 kV panels at Rosslyn Substation. These improvements are part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the power supply network,” he said.
Areas and firms that will be impacted by the planned outage are BMW, August/ Leaple (MA), Nedbank, BEVA, Asea, Rautenbach, Gomsand Industrial and Gomsand residential.
Boshielo said: “There will be a temporary disruption to the power supply for affected areas during the outage. Customers are advised to make necessary preparations in advance to minimise any inconvenience.”
He assured customers that the outage is necessary for the successful completion of key infrastructure upgrades to improve the performance of the grid and ensure better service delivery moving forward.
“We recommend that businesses and factories in the affected areas use backup generators or other power solutions during the outage period to maintain essential operations,” said Boshielo, who apologised to customers for any inconvenience the maintenance may cause.
He said customers can contact the City of Tshwane's customer service helpline for further information or updates, which will also be posted on the municipality's website and social media channels.
